So I’ve missed (cumulatively) about 2 weeks of work in my 3-4 months of working here. Some sick days that I called in, but a whole week was spent at home with a swollen appendix, and almost a full week was spent at home taking care of my fiancé when she was having uterine issues and couldn’t lift anything, including our toddler.
Other people in this plant will call in every Monday, or every Friday with absolutely no repercussion, yet I was forced to sign a paper that gave them permission to move my 90-Day review (and raise) to Jan. 1st. Hell, we have a guy on night shift that will leave for an entire month without saying anything, then clock back in like nothing ever happened. Meanwhile, I’m sick today with vomiting and diarrhea, my toddler is sick and yet I’m still expected in “because I know what can happen if I don’t”.
I want to say something to our HR dept, but they’re friends with all of the bosses in the plant (small town of 7,000) so I’m not sure how well that will go over for me. I don’t expect anything, but if anyone has advice on how to proceed I’d love to hear it.
Incredibly unsurprising that a lot of companies are shutting their doors, this might be the next one.
