Unionized teachers

I love em. I love the teachers that say “that’s not in my contract.” “That’s not in my job description.” “Will I get paid for the time it will take outside of my contract hours?” Yesterday morning was rainy, and while kids usually play on the playground until the start of our contract time, the principal announced over the loudspeaker that teachers who are in their rooms should open their doors to let kids in. At that exact moment, every teacher in my hallway ran to shut their doors. We said “no thank you, we have 9 more minutes.” We wouldn’t be doing that if it weren’t for our lovely union reps making sure we know our rights and our contract on every little thing.
