It sounds GREAT! But every place I have worked that offered this always recommended that you be available at least a few hours while being away more than a week.
At my last job you had to give at least 4 weeks' notice if you needed off. It was a Monday and on that Tuesday I was going to put in for 10 days PTO (5 weeks notice). On Monday the VP sent out an email that we were going to have a mandatory on-site meeting the week I was going away. As soon as I got that email, I emailed my boss and told her that I booked a trip already and wouldn't be there for the mandatory meeting then I quickly put my request in for my vacation. She slacked me back saying that I couldn't take off since there is a mandatory meeting and I should've put the request in sooner. I explained that my family and I weren't sure when we were leaving and wanted to get that finalized before I put the request in AND it was still 5 weeks away so I was still within the appropriate time to request off. She didn't want to hear it and said that it is strongly advised that I do not go on vacation that week and she will be speaking to the VP. After speaking to the VP she said that I could go, but they would need me to be available while gone. I agreed and as soon as I left for vacation, I turned off my phone.
When I got back I said that there was no cell service, which was a lie and they knew it was a lie.
PTO is Paid Time Off not Paid To work On vacation (I tried)
