Unpaid Expenses

Need some advice. My company laid me off recently, and is refusing to pay an expense report from a business trip they told me to take back in December. They’ve already paid me my severance, but when I brought up my unpaid expense report (which nearly totaled $3,000), they said they have no obligation to pay that. I haven’t signed the separation document yet since I want to get paid back for the expenses. Would I have a case here to take the company to court? Or, does the company really not have to reimburse my expenses since they laid me off?
