I am working towards completing a bachelors in CRJS to work at a courthouse. From my school resources and looking up resources and internship opportunities for my field for internships (I graduate in one year one month) most of them are unpaid and are directly tied to only college credit (which you have to pay by the credit hour.) how can I be expected to work an unpaid internship and still afford to even drive there? Thankfully since I am in college I still live with my parents but I recently got my first car and am wondering if an internship is even possible for me at this point. Like after a month or two I wouldn’t even be able to afford my gas and car insurance. Do they just expect that only people with money to spare get to do an internship and improve their future prospects? I have been so fracking overwhelmed, stressed, and depressed over this. Along with the change of getting older and graduating now this? This system of unpaid internships for any reason is downright predatory and needs to be made illegal. Sorry for the rant it is just so Unfair it makes me weep.
