My company just started a new policy where there will be a mandatory 1/2 hour unpaid lunch on weekend overtime shifts, if you work more than 6 hours. I live in CT and the state laws say any hours over 40 per week must be paid in overtime pay, and a lunch is only required if you work more than 7.5 hours. Shouldn't they then by law not be allowed to force an unpaid lunch if you only work 6.5 or 7 hours overtime?
Also, I work an overnight shift where you work 6.5 hours and get paid for 8, as a bonus for working the overnights. Would you think the state law would look at the 6.5 hours actually worked, or the 8 hours compensated for when taking into account the requirement of a lunch after 7.5 hours?
