I am a student teacher, and I have to do my “Practical” at a school for 2 consecutive months.
I had to take unpaid leave.
My “Practical” includes working from 7:45 am to 6 pm Mon-Fri. I have to commute to/from work myself, do all the “dirty” work, am being talked down to by older teachers, sub for absent teachers…
Man, this really sucks. I absolutely love students, and it's my passion, but doing unpaid work and being treated like trash just isn't it. I got yelled on for sitting on a couch in the office instead of walking around in the mornings and checking on students. Fyi, this was at 7:30, not even “working hours”.
Student teachers should be paid. At least something. This is pure slavery. It feels unreal, like am I the only one experiencing this? Why isn't this talked about???
