Unpopular Opinion: Tipping isn’t that bad.

Okay YES it’s a broken system obviously. How about, though, we focus on getting a living wage from our employers. “Tipping culture” is a deflection or distraction at best to that ideal. Tipping is not the issue. It’s that we don’t get the money we deserve, the money we earn for the company we work for. We get peanuts. Stupid to push that responsibility to customers, but also somewhat silly to get mad about customers trying to help when they don’t really know what to do or how to help. When I go out to ice cream with my parents, I tip bc I know they work a terrible job with poor pay. That’s as much as I can do to help them in that moment – that, and discuss with my parents the importance of raising the minimum wage. They deserve more of the money that we paid baseline…
