Dear Mods: can we ban the use of the slur “unskilled worker” from this sub please?
- All jobs require skill. My three hardest jobs were janitor (age 14), Taco Bell (age 16) and waiter/driver (aged 18).
- “Unskilled”is a label oligarchs use to justify paying an unconscionable wage to some of our most important workers (rail, retail and hospitality).
Lol! Those guys are unskilled! Of course their paycheck shouldn’t be enough for survival!” - Covid-19 established that the most fundamental workers are called “unskilled” as a slur to justify underpaying them.(google how Kroger handled this if you need support)
This term is used to abuse and underpay our very important workers and justify underpaying them.
If we need to label delivery people, rail workers, warehouse workers, baristas, house cleaners, etc., let’s call them “essential workers” because they are essential. If they were raptured, their community would suffer. If an equal amount of CEO, CFO, COO disappeared… no one would know.
