I wanted to share what happened to me cause it kind of sucks.
I was waiting and hoping to start this USDA job for a long time; I started reaching out about it in July and finally got to start on Nov. 21 (after being ghosted for about 2 months, but its the government so eh). I did the background checks, fingerprints, trainings, everything. A lot of effort and kind of being strung along.
Anyway, I finally got to start and was so excited. I've enjoyed this past week, its great.
But today I get this email and meet with our HR, they say that HR at headquarters didn't approve my start date and instead I would have to wait for them to approve, which would likely be in January (or later, who knows honestly).
I won't get paid or be able to work until then they say. This really sucks and surprised me. It feels they just don't care about me or the commitment I made to them. It feels really unprofessional and I just feel upset and sad about the whole experience. I mean, I've got expenses and I was counting on having this job for at least 180 days (its a temporary appointment).
I kind of feel like asking them if there's a possibility for financial assistance for the wages I'm missing or something, anything. I signed a contract to start working with them, accepted the position, and then they just say no you can't come in for another 6 weeks at least and we can't pay you for the time you worked until then?
Like damn. Idk, what do yall think? Is there anything I can or should be doing? I emailed HR and they said they'll get back to me and called my boss twice, but he hasn't answered or called back.
