Vent over person freaking out over small mistake

I started transitioning into a new position at work. They have set up virtual training sessions, which have been two or three hours. Anyway, this morning no training was scheduled. I reached out to my designated trainer. She said didn’t have time today. Anyway, a colleague who is also new to asked me if I wanted to help him. I agreed because he was working in two folders that I have already been trained on. And I felt confident how to do these tasks. All is good!

I have him looking over my work and I am going great… until late in the day.

I come across something new. The finance department is asking us to verify something. I quickly ask one of my new managers “do I reach the [another postition] listed on the file to clarify?”. She respond yes and doesn’t specify any more, then leaves for the day.

I send the person on file a message over teams. They look into it right away and get back to me. I record the information and respond to the inquiry. Then I get a message from the person supposed to be training me that I made a mistake.

She askes me to join a call. Then proceeds to tell me that I should’ve reached out to help help. Meanwhile she’s always busy to answer my questions outside of training. She also rants about how there’s procedures in place and rules to follow…

What was my mistake you may be thinking… I should have reached out to that person by email and not teams… I was pissed she went off on me for something as stupid and small as that. It was also my first mistake.
