VP told me to leave when I put in my weeks notice

This happened last year and I have been wanting to talk about it since. I had found a great high paying job and decided to put in my notice. The reason I left was that I was overlooked for a promotion and they gave it to a person with no experience from a different department who decided to start micromanaging me. They also were not paying me enough at all. So I go into her office, give her the notice and she smiles and asks me who I will be working for. I told her I didn’t feel comfortable telling her that.

She insisted and told me that if I didn’t tell her then I would have to leave that day. So then she went and got the new manager who was extremely condescending and who asked me all of these questions about what I had in the works. Looking back now, I wish I had just walked out but the industry is VERY small and burning bridges is not an option.

Basically I told her who I was going to work for. She told me that it was so that I wasn’t going to a competitor. (I didn’t deal with clients directly so I don’t know why that mattered). I got to go back to my desk but the vibe shifted after that meeting.

They forbid me from working from home so I would have to come into the office for the rest of the time of my notice.

No one in the office would talk to me. I mean people actively avoided me. (I think they thought I was going to go work for my old supervisor but I would never. He was a crook.)

I lasted about two days before I told them that I wasn’t coming back. I dropped off my stuff and left.

I found out later that there were multiple employees who left and were thrown parties and they were going to work for competitors.

Beware of a company that refers to itself as a family. They will use it as an excuse to pay you less and make you feel like garbage.
