Wages & Mind Games

Started a new job about three months ago and now am considering leaving. Would like any feedback from the community and curious if anyone else has been in a similar situation… During my initial “interview” the co-owner/manager asked what I wanted to make. Without giving too much though or research I gave him a number (which I regret was too low). The manager admitted that the number was low but said we would keep me at the wage for a “trial run” and if I learned more skills at the company (ie become more valuable) they would increase my pay quickly. A month ago I was given a small raise (below what they had initially said I would receive) I took it in the hopes that now (this month) I’ll have a bit more negotiating power based off my performance. I learned today that a new hire has started off…

During my initial “interview” the co-owner/manager asked what I wanted to make.

I learned today that a new hire has started off above my raised salary. The majority of the work I do is niche, that is to say only me and the owner know how to do the work. And the other work I do is random tasks and helping other employees with their work.

I know my worth and know how much I’d like to make based off of my new skills and research into similar fields. I suppose I’m just irked that the owner admitted the initial pay was low but didn’t want to start me off at a higher salary. I also doubt the “raise” they will want to give me is acceptable.

Note: I work 40hr weeks in a fabrication shop, the company provides 0 benefits.
