A little backstory: I started working at well known sandwich chain earlier this year. I go to school full time, and this job would schedule me the hours I needed.
I ended up getting a promotion, which gave me $1.35 raise, with the promise that I would be promoted to a part time assistant manager in the coming weeks. This took place at the end of September. During this time, I was required to do manager duties such as go to the bank, run errands for the store and attend manager meetings.
Weeks went by and I kept asking about my paperwork for the promotion, with a promise that it was “coming soon”. I worked extra hours, covered multiple shifts because I felt obligated, etc.
The last few weeks have been a complete shit show. They hired a second store manager, and kept giving me the run around on my promotion. Finally, I asked again last week when they decided to tell me “Sorry, we changed our minds”.
Come to find out, they promised my promotion to someone that has been there a shorter time than I have that does not know how to do the most simple tasks. Because of this, I stepped down from my team lead role.
On Wednesday, I was sick and put everyone in a group chat asking if someone could cover for me, so I didn’t get a write up. I got a text back that said “yeah, I got it covered”. The next morning my boss says I need a doctors note or I’ll be written up because I didn’t find someone to cover my shift. I let her know that was pretty shady considering she’s the one that told me my shift was covered , and that she waited until the next morning to let me know I needed a dr note. We went back and forth over the doctors notes, over her scheduling me outside of my availability with the team lead position- I signed a contract stating I would work where needed but also was told I would only work days due to my kids and my schooling. Part of that is my fault, I should have insisted on a second contract reflecting my scheduling conflicts instead of trusting a verbal agreement.
This manager was also telling people if she could give them my hours she would, talking about everyone behind their back, calling us bitches, and at one point she admitted to me that she borrows money from the store. I reported that to our regional manger who didn’t seem too concerned.
This isn’t the first time they have done this to people: promising them positions and then changing their mind when something “better” comes along.
I’m honestly freaking out since it’s so close to Christmas, but I refuse to be taken advantage of and treated like shit.
