Wasteful work

I have been working in UX/UI Design for the past 8 years and I swear that only 10% or less of what I’ve worked on has actually been delivered as a product and not seriously overhauled/scrapped. Before that, I had some short bullshit jobs where the management were either terrible people, terrible managers, or both, leading to completely ineffectual effort by their employees on projects. Before that, I obtained a four-year bachelor’s degree from an Ivy League college (I come from a poor socio-economic background, and so going to such a place was considered THE path in life), and that degree is completely unrelated to UX/UI work and was information I could have readily learned on YouTube. Therefore it too is a waste. My entire adult life in terms of the capacity for human ingenuity and productivity feels like such a waste. I am just coming to a close of…

I am just coming to a close of a two-week project at my current position where for the millionth time, I was given wrong or incomplete direction at the start of the project, and so the last two weeks of effort is wasted. I have told my managers repeatedly how inefficient this is. I am so sick and tired of this laptop-class bullshit. I know relative to others making minimum wage and getting screamed at by inconsiderate bosses or risking their lives to do in-person essential work during a pandemic is so much worse, but I also feel that because there are so many in that horrible position, this creative tech-field bullshit that just wastes investor money and employee effort is even more an insult.

I am also a woman who wants kids. I only met my husband a couple of years ago and we have been trying for kids, but guess what, we’re having fertility problems because of age (even though I’m only 33). It sucks so much to feel like all this time I have been out in the workforce doing absolutely meaningless work just to reach a point where I feel financially stable in this oppressive unequal economy and now the actual meaningful goal I have of having a family may not happen.

Fuck this system.
