This was like 12 yrs ago, but i still get reminded of this from time to time. I had just graduated college. I worked in a health care establishment. I loved the work, I was good at it. I was working 16h shifts back to back and loving it. I started a sport with a team for fun and had requested a Sunday off to go out of town with the team weeks from then. My director denied the request. Then found me on my unit and had said, “watch what days you request off. Those are your days to work.” Which doesn't make sense, that's why you request it off….
I gave 2 weeks notice days after. Then I kid you not. I went my last shift to the accountant to grab my ROE before I left… and was told that she was directed not to accept my letter. That I cannot leave the company when I'm expected to work.
I was stunned and beyond frustrated. I was also a young and dumb fool. I was scared that my license would be on the line if I just walked out. I had no proof that I ever handed in a notice of departure. So I printed off another letter, but sure as spit I took a picture of the letter on the desk before I left. I worked 2 more weeks and never looked back.
