Way To Show You Care (Pt. 2)

Some of you may have seen my previous post with the above picture explaining that the pizza company has removed the delivery fees ($2-4) that the customers paid on ~80% of our orders basically in exchange for giving us $1 for increasing gas prices. To add a little bit of context to that, our pizzas are EXPENSIVE. It's not uncommon to see a $20-25 16in pizza. I don't think the customers are too worried about the extra $3 going to the drivers. On Thursdays through Sundays, there's a dishwasher in the shop to help with the dishes since they can quickly pile up and would leave the closing driver with hours of dishes once the store closed. This is nice of them. However, when I started, they explained that us drivers each had to tip the dishwasher a couple of bucks. I thought “oh, that's interesting… but I guess I…

I thought “oh, that's interesting… but I guess I don't mind, being their main closer!”

I talked to the dishwasher a couple of days ago and it all clicked. She's getting the same hourly pay as me (min wage in AZ is $13.85 unless it's a tipped position, in which case you can pay them as low as $10.85 if you're so inclined)

THEY'RE HAVE US PAYING PART OF THEIR EMPLOYEES WAGES!

At first, I still had the rose-colored glasses on. They had a fundraiser when I first started for a local teacher that was diagnosed with cancer. I thought they were great people, but it turns out they're paying everyone in that place $10.85! (Cook staff are tipped out from the receipt signatures at the front.)

It's not all bad, the managers let me take home plenty of pizza and wings, even a couple 64oz beers that were poured accidentally. I'm just glad I'm in schooling for something that will actually pay me right. Just 4 more weeks!
