We Don’t Allow Retaliation.

This is a true story of why you should never trust Human Resources. I worked in IT for a small college. If had immediate suspicions of why the person I was replacing left. This is a true story of why you should never trust Human Resources.

I worked in IT for a small college.

If had immediate suspicions of why the person I was replacing left.

We head a very hostile and toxic coworker we will call her “Amy”

Amy had bright purple hair, and was always interrupting conversations, over-talking you, and just generally had a very hostile, toxic, and abusive personality.

We lost numerous student workers because of her abusive personality.

I did my very best to be friendly and turn the other cheek, and not take it personally.

I would like to preface the next part by saying I am absolutely pro vaccine, and I have had my covid boosters, and flu shot this year.

I do however have an allergy to a preservative used in multi-dose vaccines.

We had a vaccine clinic at work and there was a section on the paperwork to indicate this allergy, and I even double checked with the nurse to verify.

Amy walked in and overheard this conversation.

5 minutes after I got my flu shot, we were in the dining hall and I am accosted with the following conversation:

Amy: You think vaccines cause autism don't you!?

Me: No I don't think that.

Amy: YES YOU DO!!!

Amy: I bet you think (the allergen) causes AUTISM, don't you!?

Me: No I don't think that.

Amy: YES YOU DO!!!

Amy: I bet you don't eat PEARS because you think PEARS cause AUTISM!!!

Me: I can't remember the last time I bought a pear, I am not a fan, but I don't think they contain (the allergen), nor do I think they cause autism.

I need to avoid exposure to this allergen because my arm will swell, blister and weep if I am exposed.

Amy: You are fucking (redacted)! They took that out of vaccines!

I pulled up FDA.GOV which has an article on this which explains everything quite clearly. At the time of the publication there were 5 multi-dose vaccines which used a different chemical instead of the allergen in question. none of those 5 were in the common schedule of vaccines a normal person would receive in their lifetime, and there was another chart of multi-dose flu vaccines which showed 100% of them contained the allergen. The only way to avoid it was to get a single dose formulation, and then some of those still contained trace amounts.

Unfortunately I was not able to show or explain this to Amy because she had a meltdown and let me know ” I'm not looking at your antivaxxer bullshit”

FDA.GOV is not an antivaxxer blog written by a soccer mom, it's the FDA.

The situation quickly escalated and I was forced to remove myself from the situation.

I met with human resources and went over the issue, but left names out, explaining I felt it would worsen the situation to point fingers.

I was assured: “We don't allow retaliation.”

I left not mentioning Amy's name, and explained I would try and drop it, let it go, and hope this blew over.

Amy started emailing me, texting me, and coming by asking for a private, after hours, off campus meeting.

I politely declined each of those times she asked, in total 7 times I said no.

She came in my office and started screaming:

YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH ME! I AM A BIG GIRL! I CAN HANDLE IT! WE ARE GOING TO HAVE THIS MEETING WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!

I replied to her email stating I required another person from the office present for the meeting, and stated if she could not agree to that then I would not be comfortable meeting outside of work.

This was a major mistake, she printed this up and went screaming to human resources.

I tried to meet with human resources later on, and was greeted by a balding man with a blood red face screaming.

YOU ARE TRYING TO FORCE HER TO HAVE A DATE WITH YOU OFF CAMPUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

YOU CREATED A PROBLEM FOR YOUR DEPARTMENT!

YOU CREATED A PROBLEM FOR THE COLLEGE! YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

YOU HAVE TO GO!

GET THE **** OUT OF MY OFFICE!

I begged and pleaded for him to please listen to me, but was met with nothing but belligerent screaming.

So much for not allowing retaliation.

Needless to say I didn't last much longer before I was shown the door.

Amy later contact the girl I was dating, her and her friend had to educate her on what a psychopath I was.

That was the end of that relationship.

I met with two different attorneys who said I had no case, and just to drop it and move on.

HR does not care about you, they pick the easiest way to resolve problems, it doesn't matter who the bully or aggressor is, it matters who can be removed the easiest.

Remember in high-school where the bully's never got in trouble, teachers turned a blind eye, but the kids that fought back got suspended?

HR is the same thing.
