“We don’t want you working for peanuts” *only gives peanuts*

I’ve been looking for a well paying 9-5 job & someone who knows my family offered me one. He owns a very very successful business and is obviously rich. His wife needed a personal assistant & someone to help her take care of their other business. It sounded like something that would actually be a job worth looking forward to each day, except it’s 1 hour each way and 1.5 hours from where I’m looking to eventually (asap) move out or go to school. I expressed this to him, and also explained that driving 2 hours each day with my previous job is one of the reasons I quit because the pay didn’t compensate for the commute. He told me he’d hire me as one of his full time company employees & give me benefits as well. (Insurance, medical, dental, 401k) and pay me well for the drive. I show up for my first day today to train with his wife & she was going to explain my schedule, pay, and benefits, etc to me. Well, halfway through, he shows up and tells me he’s gonna offer me a whopping $12/hr!! Yay! I told him this wasn’t enough & he said “okay well since you’re young enough to be on your parents insurance (I’m 20), I’ll cut the insurance out of your benefits and pay you a whopping $14 instead! We don’t want you working for peanuts we’ll take care of you”

Insane how people will act like they’re doing you a favor and offering you an enjoyable well paying job & put you on the spot to low ball you. Smh.
