I had a job interview, if you want to call it that. We started the job interview and the guy asked me what I understand the role to be. I explained it, he tells me I’m a “quarter of the way there” and then proceeded to explain the role (which is exactly what I said the role was, and what I understand it to be) then proceeded to carry on about how I wouldn’t handle the role and that I wouldn’t understand it. I haven’t done this role before but work in a similar field which relates to the role and I have an understanding of the role but obviously there’s some learning to do if I started (which I advised in the phone call prior) as I’m wanting to learn more, I made it clear I’d be new to the role. He then shakes his head at my resume on the table and says I was never going to hire you I just would rather tell this to your face… I was gobsmacked. I have friends who do this role and I know completely what it entails doing/learning, and he kept making it out to be this big role that it isn’t.
So he basically never was going to hire me for me to come in and him just speak about all that they do and how difficult it is and just waste my time, when the guy doesn’t even know me or what I know, there were no other questions.
Why would someone want to do this? I cannot work it out. There’s no benefit to them or myself wasting our time.
To top of off I found out later they were only offering 20k less than what I earn now.
