i worked as a kennel staff member at a vet hospital. it sucked. this hospital didn’t have a janitorial staff, if that’s common i have no clue. i was HOPING to get into the vet world. however, being janitorial staff on top of my expected job requirements, for $12/hr, is not worth it. kennel was horribly understaffed my entire time i worked there. i was frequently required to cover shifts alone, which would make me stay late because it’s really a 2-3 person job.
before getting hired i was not informed i would have to deal with dead bodies. i believe that was on purpose. i realized, after bagging bodies for 30 minutes, “damn. i just did that for $6” and i was so embarrassed. i was constantly talked down to, not only by other coworkers but by my boss as well. my coworkers treated me like garbage. it got to the point i wished i would get in a car accident on my way to work, so i couldn’t go in. it had me talking only about work, even on my days off.
i am so sorry to my coworkers that were equally as stressed that i just made more stressed by walking out, but i’m also kinda not. us not working as a team is why nobody treats kennel good there, i know you learn that soon. and realize you’re worth more than $12 for picking up poop, pee, blood, and dead bodies.
