I can't be the only one infuriated by this. Post after post, story after story. Worker receives bad news – their relative died, their child is in the hospital. Or even something simple as wanting to take their legally mandated vacation days. The moment the worker needs to step away from the job to deal with their situation, they are threatened with termination or a reprimand. I had to attend my grandmother's funeral for 2 days. He didn't even offer condolences. He simply said “Okay. I'll have to cover you”. He certainly didn't seem happy about it. But he was more upset over the fact that he would have to work those 2 days. I felt so offended over that.
Why do bosses think this is even remotely acceptable? Moreover, how could they be that much of an inconsiderate asshole to threaten their worker, all because they can't complete their scheduled shift? I noticed, this mostly applies in America, where Worker's Rights laws are practically non-existent.
Fuck bosses like that.
