Context, tldr at bottom:
I have been applying to jobs for about a year now after being laid off last January. I was able to secure temp work to keep me afloat, but have been searching for something permanent for 12 months. I work in the arts administration industry. In 2018 I was a PT tour guide for an architectural house museum (let's use AHM) with only 2 FT staff and I loved the job and people, had since left on great terms and had finished my Masters. While working that job I also had a full time job and hustled to pay for school.
Fast forward to now I'm job hunting and I saw the AHM post a job listing for a programs manager which stated they were searching for someone with 6 years of “relevant” experience (I have about 10 now) and 3 years of supervisory (I have exactly 3), knowledge of the AHM (I have a lot being a former guide), and then the regular soft skills and reliable transportation blah blah blah. Cool, I applied and then sent an email to the CEO and flagged my enthusiasm, desire to reconnect, and offered to send more materials than were requested on LinkedIn's easyapply option.
Got this response back at midnight after applying and sending that email. I'm just blown away at the immediate salary talk? I didn't mention anything about my desired or anything at all about money. The posting offered about 50k for the position, if relevant. Also, I reread the job posting 5 times, there was no mention of “Interpretive Framework Plans” so ok I get it I'm not as qualified as they actually desired but it just seems like CEO's offended I even applied. ANYWAY- my analysis is that maybe I'm so offended because I do resent how underpaid the industry is (plus my quality of life being tethered to work anyway, you guys know) , even though everything he said is right, or was he kinda just a little rude?
Bonus question: I'm sad because I thought we had a good relationship and would've loved to come back at some point in some capacity but now I'm turned off the whole AHM, what do you think?
TLDR: applied for a job I'm qualified for and got immediately told I'm not qualified or deserving of money, i think.
