What is it with managers being complete psychopaths and expecting everyone to work outside their hours?

When I first accepted the job that I had, I was told the work life balance is terrific, it's a corporate office job 9:00 to 5:00, very relaxed even pace job. Okay, sounds terrific. Well fast forward to this week we got a random project that was a pretty urgent project we have to work on. Informed my manager that I had something else going on in my personal life and I would need a little bit extra time, it was like that was completely ignored and I was expected to work all throughout the personal time that I needed. Pounding me every single day calling my cell phone. I missed a work call at 5:50 p.m. that lasted 1 and 1/2 hours until 7:30 at night… I log in this morning she had sent me several emails one at 7:00 p.m. another at 12:00 a.m. who in the fuck…

Seems like my manager is a complete psychopath who expects me to work outside my hours for her for whatever project comes up….
