Its really telling of how long toxic work culture has been engraved into our society. It reminded me of a conversation I had with my 94 year old client about him believing that an employee shouldn't demand anything from the employer because the employer is already providing a job and you have to do as your told and work when you are told, and I told him how that culture is shifting because employers have taken advantage of their employees for too long promising a promotion that will never happen without paying a livable wage. He seemed to understand but I don't think he truly did, he's 94 so i don't expect to change his mind, but the song really got me thinking about how even in pop culture the older generation was being brainwashed into surrendering their lives to work just for food and shelter.
