What they says vs what they actually mean – red flag thread

Let’s compile a list of red flags for jobs – things said by both management and recruitment. I’ll start with three red flags: What the boss says “We’re not a team, we’re a family”. What they mean: “we approve of light emotional abuse and still expect you to come back to work”. What management says “the wage and hours here are competitive”. What they mean: “it’s going to be $3-$8 above minimum wage and you’re expected to do unpaid admin”. What bosses say “we all have to sometimes give 110%”. What they mean: “I’m expecting you to do a job outside what you’ve been hired and paid to do and I expect you to do it”.
