what’s okay to ask in an interview?

I had a phone interview with a company that sells cosmetics. During the interview the lady asked me what my age was and if I had any children. From my understanding, these questions aren't supposed to be asked?? I didn't disclose anything with her but instead asked her if this had any relevance to the position I was being interviewed for (which is front desk receptionist) especially the question concerning my age. She told me that they have employees from all ages and whatnot but I still felt kinda weird about it. She then continues to ask me if I'm used to being on my feet bc as at their company they believe in having fast access to the customer so they don't have any chairs available for the receptionist. I ended up hanging up on her bc it just gave me very bad vibes. Did I dodge a bullet there? What questions are appropriate to ask in an interview and which questions should be a red flag
