What’s the point of being great at your job for a 2% wage increase?

You work hard all year, you excel and obviously exceed expectations every single day. Your praised by all kinds of different leaders, and constantly made to feel like you are doing a seriously really good job even under extreme deadlines, high pressure workload, innovating and making things easier. Productivity increase, process improvement. But at the annual review, you know you're getting the same 2% wage increases everyone else. Yeah, you try to fight it and negotiate for something higher, but it's just not possible right now because “inflation is so high”. Also, so many people are getting fired from their jobs and laid off in masses. So now what do you do? Feel fortunate to have your job and suck it up?
