2 years ago, better.com got absolutely raked over the coals for laying off over a thousand employees over zoom. Now it's just normal. Got laid off today via a 6 minute zoom call. Really drove home how little my years of service mattered. Especially from a company that constantly beat the drum about how 'culture' was so important.
The weak ass founder chairman of the board didn't even have the balls to give some platitudes like 'sorry, shit didn't work out. Totally didn't want this to happen' No, he cashed out millions in stock before the crash and is hiding in a bunker without saying one word about the collapse. Spineless.
Maybe I'm a boomer at this point but back in my day, which I am really not that old, your manager would say something like, 'I'm sorry we have to let you go but shit bad now. Sorry bro' not some bullshit like a 6 minute long mass zoom call.
The next time you think for a second your culture focused corporation gives a shit, just remember when they lay you off it will probably be via a 6 minute long zoom call.
