I figured I share this dumb bullshit from my job cuz it’s kinda darkly funny. I’ve got a decent gig and I’m able to improve things, but the idiocy of our MBA CEO kinda astounds me sometimes.
I work in data research for a decently sized company in a niche industry. If you’re a nerd you probably know them. I’m paid 17/hr despite being the only person besides my direct supervisor keeping the data for their new venture afloat, and while decent for parts of the country, here in Southern California I could literally make more going to work at the fast food place at the end of the block. I am literally one of the lowest paid workers in the entire company. To pay the one person who keeps that shit working, when they would literally be fucked without me, is frankly not just wrong, but from a business perspective fucking stupid when your only two competitors would LOVE to grab me.
However where this gets almost hilariously stupid is my boss agrees with me, his boss agrees with me, all the way up to the person reporting to the CEO. I’ve caught snippets of them arguing with him about this for months, especially in the face of some new legislation in CA that’ll show their bullshit. Since I’ve got such bargaining power as a lynchpin worker with supervisory support I decided that I’d turn the tables on them and show the CEO is not just miserly but dumb and a failure of a leader. I decided to call his bluff at the blind AMAs. He said the following shit live to the entire company:
Only one branch of our company (not mine) is going to get resources because they make the most money. Never mind we can’t actually do that without his support.
Nobody is getting a raise to adjust for inflation despite the fact we need workers and no pay is competitive for the entire SoCal area.
He was caught off guard when called out about the caste system and interdepartmental feuds that can rival game of thrones with pettiness.
Clearly showing internal rage when it was mentioned the IT team are treated like a higher caste than us data/logistics serfs.
Immediately got defensive to the point his two handlers were very visibly wishing he’d shut up before he made this internal PR disaster worse.
I was grinning ear to ear the whole time, and was already meeting with the VP and my boss to talk about the exact same issues with poor management by executives. The whole workforce is livid at his bullshit and the VP is clearly on the warpath with this clown of a ceo now for not just being a piece of shit, but being a colossally bad businessman about it. Everyone at the VP’s level is demanding change more and more, and I love watching the CEO squirm as his hold breaks.
Goes to show that a worker who merely asks questions and points out the truth can set off a fucking powder keg of change. Can’t wait to see this cause more shockwaves cuz it’s only a matter of time before CEO is forced to change course, cuz until then he just digs his grave. Power to us at the bottom.
