When you call in sick why do managers do that weird thing and say “call me later and let me know how you’re getting on”…

What’s it all about? I’ve had it from several different managers over the years and I don’t believe for one minute it’s because they actually care how I’m feeling. Is it just another way of having some weird control over your ‘sick day’ or maybe because they want to pester you to come in the next day? Regardless, I never call them with an update. It’s like “I’m obviously still going to be ill later, I’ve called you, now I’m going back to bed” 🤣🤣
