Why are corporations pushing for more diverse workforce through affirmative action and diversity hiring initiatives? Is it for tokenism?

Why is it that the management of corporations are starting to push for more diverse workforce for hiring? When a White management is doing fine but they want to all of a sudden have more minorities working there, why do corporations want more minorities working in their companies? I was at a career fair at my school just visiting and not actually interviewing with anyone. For example, I saw Boeing was there and they brought in recruiters who were all Black and one of them was wearing a headscarf. This was very interesting to see since from what I know about Boeing and their workforce culture, nearly all of their management are Middle aged White men and women. I don’t understand the rationale behind companies going out of their way to hire more minorities for tokenism?
