Why do companies think its okay to do this to people, we keep them in business!!

I've worked at this company for 6 years, been moved up the ladder several times. Every year at evaluation time it's a $0.16 raise if your lucky. In Illinois minimum wage goes up $1.00 per year till it hits $15hr. For middle management like me that puts every new hire closer to what I've worked 6 yrs to make. The Company told us 2yrs ago they were working on fixing the wage gap. This year they asked us what we thought we needed. I said $2hr, cause ya know they've been slacking for years now. I got $0.60. I told them I'd had it and began putting in apps elsewhere, they said they'd pay me more if someone else had an offer for me 🤬. Fuck your game, only pay better if someone else wants you.
