Why do people even reply to their managers outside of working hours?

I absolutely ignore my phone whenever I get a phone call or an email from work when I'm on a vacation or a weekend or just simply outside of the working hours, why bother texting them when you're absolutely fine with not answering or replying to their texts or emails, what they're gonna do? Fire you? On what basis? I was outside of work on my free time
