Recently, I had a long time friend/mentor ask for my resume. I informed him that I would send him a copy but not to get his hopes up as I am very happy where I am at (currently).
Well, a couple weeks passed and his company reached out to me…… the conversation went a little something like this….
Interviewer: why are you interested in looking for work.
Me: I am looking for the next opportunity in my career.
Interviewer: that was a really good corporate answer but really, why are you looking to leave?
Me: I am not really too interested in leaving, I am very happy where I am at. As I said, I am looking for the next opportunity. My job is currently not challenging and I feel my skills exceed my current role.
Interviewer: uhhh. Well, I am looking at your resume and I don’t see what projects you have been on, why aren’t they on here.
Me: they are on there, you may have missed it in my objectives.
Interviewer: oh ya, I see it here…. Why isn’t it here? It would be better here.
Me: I do apologize, I appreciate the feedback and will make adjustments for the future.
Interviewer: (continues to criticize resume) what makes you think your qualified for a manager position when your a coordinator?
Me: (about to lose my shit, resume states manager experience and working in related field for 15 years) my current role, even though is listed as “senior coordinator “ qualifies me.
Interviewer: well it’s says you a coordinator.
Me: yes, senior coordinator refers to a senior in role which means I manage said team.
Interviewer:(continues to criticize resume placement, then proceeds to talk about pay)
Me: (told him my minimum)
Interviewer: well, I’ll see where the team may need you and we will contact you.
Me: great, thanks for your time.
This is by far the weirdest experience I have ever had…. Can anyone relate?
