Why is it that employers love to share the “good news” of record profits while refusing to give staff raises?

At the end of 2022, my company’s CEO made a 15 minute video telling everyone what a great year we’ve had, how much profit we’ve made, and all the plans to make more money next year. At the same time, budgets have been squeezed so tight this year and the majority of the company received no raise. I get the theory – by sharing the company’s private financial details, employees feel more invested in the company and want to help it succeed. But do they just think we’re idiots who can’t put two and two together? The reason you’ve been able to funnel so much profit for the people at the top is because you’ve withheld that money from the workers who are earning it!
