‘Why is (Me) Still Here?’

I quit the worst company I have ever worked for a few months ago and I’m ready to talk about it. To preface, a lot has happened in the time I worked there but I want to start with things that went down before I started to give my experience context. The pandemic hit our area hard. I quit the worst company I have ever worked for a few months ago and I’m ready to talk about it.

To preface, a lot has happened in the time I worked there but I want to start with things that went down before I started to give my experience context.

The pandemic hit our area hard. The company I worked for had gone under and bought out 3 times. The general manager we had when I started – as an employee post pandemic – was on his way out.

This is where it all begins. There’s a lot to cover but I’ll break it down.

Management:

They had been understaffed management wise (And employee wise) since the day I started and even to this day, it still is. The higher ups have no idea what they’re doing and every visit proved it.

Since I started and left, we went through 8 different managers. Either they were kind, cool people who saw the utter bullshit the company was or they were micromanaging, alcoholic, know it alls. There was no in between. We even went through several higher up managers and from here, I will be speaking about the last three I worked for. We’ll call my direct boss A, the second in line is B, and the last near the tip will be C.

B and C played both sides at all times. They were never honest or clear about anything or anyone and I always knew more than I lead on. They always assumed I had no idea.

B was initially the one who wanted me to move up and promised me several times with several deadlines that the position would officially be mine. (That’s correct, I was acting manager doing manager duties for far less than what the job actually pays.)

Every deadline moved further and further away despite how much I did and achieved. They even had me help another location in another state and I received nothing but positive reviews from that locations team.

I was constantly told how hard I worked, how smart I was, and how far I’d g but at every turn, they would put me on the back burner.

After the last boss quit, A was put up for the boss position. At this point, there were 3 managers, including me. I was told b A, B, and C that if I helped A to get our team back on track, we’d both be promoted.

In the mean time, they hire a new manager externally who I had known had been coming for a long time and truly believed had nothing to do with my promotion.

I get Covid on a Monday and I’m bed ridden up until Saturday (New managers first day). They begged me to come to work despite still not being well, so of course I was upset. Not only was I Ill, but we were extremely short staffed and the work load was immense.

This new manager knows nothin despite having been trained for 6 weeks. So I’m doing my best to keep the ship a float for the day all while sick. She takes my lack of enthusiasm personally and tells my bosses that I was pissed off and uncommunicative.

Despite me telling them clearly that no, I’m upset I had to work while sick, busy, and understaffed.

Anyway, we did what we set out to do. A made it clear to B and C that the results we got would have not been possible without me.

What’s my reward? Nothing. I basically helped her get promoted and I got nothing. Actually, what I did get was a phone call from B and C. First, they stick with their story of me being upset about the new managers presence.

They started the call with ‘We should have had this conversation with you two months ago,’ just to tell me I need to work on my communication. Seriously?

Then they tell me there’s no opportunities for growth here and if I want, they can give me a list locations hiring managers and they ‘will fight for me.’

Gee, thanks.

Then C comes in to check on our location. He sits another manage down while we’re closing. He doesn’t realize I’m still listening and can hear him when he says ‘Why is (Me) still here?’

Good question. Put my two weeks in. B tries to talk me into staying. I’m not falling for it.

Sexual Harassment:

Sexual harassment has been a part of this company far longer than I had been apart of me. In fact, theres another manager who is not mentioned that got fired from another location for the sexual harassment of A. Yes, this manager sexually harassed A, got fired for it, and rehired under another name all the while working for A who cannot get rid of him despite his past.

He and the other previous boss were also sweeping sexual harassment under the rug so they wouldn’t get in trouble. They were covering their own asses and even threw other people under the boss. How do I know? It almost happened to me.

When it came out that manager D (Sexual harasser) was making out with an employee on company time and property, among various other accusations by other female staff for not only him, but another male employee he is also In charge of.

When that came out, a rumor was made on me and a female employee I’d been helping with on the position I stated on.

Essentially, manager D’s scandal was covered up by throwing her and I under the bus.

We both get a talking to about how we should date outside our workplace. Despite both managers speaking to us both married female employees who worked for them. Hypocrites.

The reason I never let anyone know that I knew more than I had lead on is simply because they retaliate towards any employee who knows the skeletons in their closets.

Last story:

I spoke to an ex manager for the company who had left before I started. Apparently, they sent him to several locations out of state to help shut them down for good. When he got back, they filled his position and told him they no longer had work for him.

I don’t want to work for that company or for A, B, C, etc. they have no communication skills, are hypocritical, and get nothing done but enjoy their drama circles.

There’s a lot more I didn’t talk about but this is the gist of my experience.

Also yes, they are still struggling and I don’t see them lasting much longer.

But now I get to say it’s not my problem anymore and I’ve moved on to greener pastures.

Fuck that place and fuck you A, B, and C.
