Antiwork

Wife has broken her leg (fibula and tibia) and I need to WFH to support her. Boss is being dramatic about it. Found new job.

So, I mean, basically the title 😀 I work in the UK as an IT contractor for a public institution. My actual line managers (that work for the public institution) are fine with me working from home, I proved through COVID my output doesn't suffer etc, but my company line manager (also a contractor for the same customer, nothing to do with IT just the next senior person with my employer) is being all power trippy about it, “ooooh I need to look into it” “ooooh I need to speak to HR” “you can work for home for now but we might need to change things short notice” etc. I'm like, look, I can WFH, or I can take holiday, but either way my wife is a higher priority than you. I'm like, look, I can WFH, or I can take holiday, but either way my wife is a higher priority than you. Customer is fine with me WFH. I've mostly ignored him, especially as I have a small business/side gig that's kind of taking off anyway and if I had to quit, I'd be ok, and the reality is given that I work to the customer and the customer loves me it's not like he can really do much.

On the off chance applied for another job with another company on the same site a few buildings over. Interviewed yesterday. Wasn't really expecting to get it.

Today, got a call back and was offered the job with a 33% pay rise.

I think when I put my notice in I'll tell him it's just because of the drama over my wife/WFH.
