Wife was let go from job today for being on short term disability/hospitalization for mental health

This cant possibly be legal, right? They essentially said she has been gone for too long(2.5weeks) and she has another approximately 2 in her program. Certainly a blow to her mental health on top of everything she has been dealing with. Edit: in United States
