So my wife just got a new job in her field. She has nearly 10 year exp in this field but her new job is “entry level”. The company seemed good, she was wanting less stress, and the pay cut wasn't that severe, though very appropriate for the job.
Anyway cut to one week in and they are changing her responsibilities with someone whose been there longer and more than likely gets paid a lot more. She gets paid the same and has the same job title but now is having to take on the responsibilities of a not “entry level” position.
Not to mention the way theyve gone about this switch was very underhanded. The senior coworker asked if she would change desks, which she felt obliged to do having only been there for five days and wanting to make a good impression on everyone. Then the supervisor asked her if she was indeed ok with this desk move, which she still replied fine, thinking it was only a desk change. Then cut to Monday the following week (second week in) and she has an email sent 20 minutes after her shift ends explaining to everyone on the team that she and her coworker would be swapping responsibilities and it was approved by her and a higher up.
They do know she has a lot of experience and I'm thinking maybe they feel like they can get more out of her than they thought and the coworker is trying to have their load lightened.
It has been mentioned that there will be an evaluation in three months where she needs to bring forward what she's contributed for an appropriate raise, but this has her shook up some and no matter what, they're expecting complicated non entry level work for entry level pay for a minimum of three months it seems.
