I never ever considered I'd get a WFH job when I was younger, it just didn't seem like a common thing and was reserved only for special cases. My current job doesn't allow WFH at all, not even for specific special circumstances, not even when I point out I can do my entire job from home easily and save the company money on power (I have my heater on absolutely all day). I'm starting to really resent my job because of this.
Late last year I lost my job. Nothing bad, they just didn't like my attitude, and yeah.. my attitude sucked. I was already looking for a new job so I wasn't bothered but the fear of having no money upped my commitment to the search and I quickly found my current job.
I thought I was getting a pretty sweet deal tbh. A 7k pay increase, more freedom to plan my day, and a better commission structure than my previous job. Downsides: no WFH, 8am start, very little benefits outside of the required by law ones (UK based), and I have to use a good portion of my holiday allowance for the 2 weeks the office is closed at Christmas leaving me with around 2 weeks of holiday for the rest of the year (this is a major killer).
Tbh, the money was the biggest driving factor for me. When I finish this year-long scheme they've got me on I'll get another 10k pay increase too. But I'm now questioning my decision here because the downsides are really killing me. I wouldn't mind the 8am start if I could WFH. I wouldn't mind no option to WFH if I had a 9am start, the two combined is making it harder and harder to get up every day, plus the fact that I barely get any time off to go on holiday and refresh.
I can't quit right now due to personal circumstances so I have to deal with it. I know I'm basically just complaining but it feels good to do that sometimes. I work in a family-run office and my direct manager is the director. If anyone has any suggestions on how to convince my young (late 20s), VERY traditional manager that WFH is a good thing that would be great lol. It'd be a long shot but even 1 day a week WFH would feel life changing to me.
I don't understand why companies and managers still have this stick up their arse when it comes to WFH? It'd save them money and make their company look more desirable for job applicants. He's literally the director and is out and about in meetings and shit most days anyway so it's not like he wants us in to be able to keep any eye on us. Sorry for the rant lol
