I have an easy job. I work for an automotive manufacturer that makes small plastic parts, and robots do almost all of the work. The only thing operators really do at this factory is pack out. We have about 50 small lines most of which are single op.
Today I got put on a machine that's so easy it's only considered to need 1/2 an operator which just means it's so easy 1 person can run 2 lines. I was only assigned to one 1/2 op machine for my shift. My job is stand in one spot until think about ONE THOUSAND are in there, and then take it and put it on a scale to make sure the count is correct and then slap it on a pallet.
To make things worse I let maintenance know my machine wasn't running when I came into work today at 7:15. It's been now 8:30 and I'm still not running.
I let my supervisor know and his response was just be patient and clean up my station. He's not even going to move me and I don't know if or when I'm going to start today, but despite that I'm not allowed to go home, sit down, or be on my phone.
If I don't have any work to do they would literally rather I stand here and stare at the wall for 8 hours for 15/hr. I like my coworkers and the job is not hard but we don't have anywhere near enough maintenance techs and our shitty ass management won't do anything to fix the problems they are having all day every day.
As cool as it is to get paid for not doing anything I don't want to waste 8 fucking hours of my life on the company's bet that my machine will be running by the end of the day. At the very least it won't be up until after I get back from lunch at 10:30, so I built myself a fort out of empty boxes and I'm browsing reddit and making this post for 15/hr instead of all that bullshit
