hi everyone this might be a TLDR story so here it goes. I currently work at a summer camp and we have High School Apprentices, college apprentices and Area leads. We are so understaffed in college apprentices and workers who are over the age of 18 who can work full days 40+ hours a week that it's hard to keep 5/6 year olds in tact. 2 weeks ago i was running the tent by myself one day with a ratio of 1 staff to at least 50 or 60 kids in one tent. I am feeling so exhausted and feeling like it's hard to do my job. None of us are being paid overtime and in fact there are many more camp counselors who are considering quitting because of staff to child ratio and the lack of staff coverage for breaks and lunches. Some staff are even lucky if they even get a break. One staff ate lunch while working because the amount of work was overwhelming. We have frequent accidents where the kids get injured because there is not enough staff to keep an eye on 1500 kids in early elementary school age. And the problem is HSA's are only working half days but they are volenteering to work full days now. Just not every day cause they can't work more then 40 hours a week
P.S Im considering filing a formal complaint against the camp with my state but I am not sure yet. Im feeling a bit scared since I grew up at this camp but the camp got new management a year ago.
