I ended up with a pretty cozy computer job doing essentially glorified data entry for real property assets for the Guard. With the exception of a few occasional visits to sites to do inspections and take pictures, most of my days involve sitting at my desk putting numbers in.
They refuse to allow any remote days because the man in charge wanted everyone back in office. It's crazy to me because there are entire days I go where I will do 30min-1hour of data entry and spend the rest on Reddit, YouTube, and reading Manga. I read like 360 chapters of MHA in two days.
It's crazy to me that I commute an hour to work and an hour back sometimes just to sit on Reddit for 7.5 hours because I'm getting paid to be physically at my desk as opposed to doing the work.
One day my boss said he wouldn't be in cause his kid was sick. I asked him if he had any work I needed to do in office. He told me no. I asked if I could work remotely and have access to my email should anything pop up I could get it to him immediately. Unfortunately was denied because company policy says we can't do that.
Even 1 day a week remote would save me about $60 a month in gas, 2 days $120, and so on. Crazy to think they have the power to save us money, give us more sleep, provide us more safety by reducing commute, and allow our mental health to improve but won't.
