Work was trying to deny sick leave so I had to change my appointment date

Basically I forgot I had a dental appointment cause I scheduled it 6 months ago and got the reminder yesterday so I told my manager. I told her I wanted to use my sick leave but she said since we wouldn’t have coverage I would have to flip shifts instead of using it. So I said I didn’t want to do that. She ends up going to her manager to try to speak to me and he said he would ask HR after I still was not complying. During this I made the call to have the appointment switched since it was such a big deal. Never heard from HR directly but they basically agreed that I should have just flipped my shift instead of using sick leave and they were looking into whether they could deny it. I don’t think they can, which is why I kept pushing, but still ended up switching my appointment. Even today I’m still feeling guilty for it. Fuck this capitalist society.
