Working past scheduled daily shift hours.

Hey Reddit, Can my boss reprimand me for not staying later than my scheduled shift on Ontario? I am an hourly worker and nowhere in my contract does it say I'm on call. I heard that an employer can legally ask me to stay, but I can legally say no. I worked a shift today and it got busy 15 minutes before the end of my shift, so I decided to finish up with my customer and then inform my manager I was leaving at my scheduled end time. Hey Reddit,

Can my boss reprimand me for not staying later than my scheduled shift on Ontario? I am an hourly worker and nowhere in my contract does it say I'm on call. I heard that an employer can legally ask me to stay, but I can legally say no.

I worked a shift today and it got busy 15 minutes before the end of my shift, so I decided to finish up with my customer and then inform my manager I was leaving at my scheduled end time. The store was busy and we were short handed, but I'm still under no obligation to stay, as to my knowledge, any overtime worked for an hourly retail associate, is optional(correct me if I'm wrong). I was not asked to stay beforehand, or anything, and even so, I have to agree to it. They can't force me can they?

Anyway, my manager says B.S like “you have to make sure anything needs finishing, before you go, you can't just clock out” ( in which case I finished with my last customer, but she means stuff that would keep me there for 15+ minutes, which is not my sole responsibility)

Yes I left them when it got busy, but isn't that a scheduling and management issue??

Am I in the wrong here? Sorry for the long post.

Edit: I did say I had something planned 30 mins after my shift, when I was about to clock out.
