I live in a pretty large and well know US city. My friend just graduated last year with a BA in GIS. They had a hard time finding a job so when one finally popped up they took it.
Fast forward a couple of months and we were talking about how it was going. The job pays 43k to monitor air and water around factories to make sure they are in compliance with state and federal regulations. The friend has had to work almost every weekend at her old job waiting tables just to make ends meet. This week their boss found out that almost all employees are working too jobs. To fix this they said “We will ask to see if upper management will give you a 10k COL adjustment.”
I can't believe that management is so detached from the situation that they didn't even know that they don't pay enough and that most of their employees work two jobs. For those that aren't in the states this right here is why we are imploding in on ourselves.
