So I've been working at this Union workshop for just over three years, the pay is better than 85% of jobs in the area so I really enjoy this job. I've worked myself up to be a CNC operator, but the company has constantly had issues with paychecks.
When I started out, we had raises at 6, 12, 18 months. Each time I hit those raises I didn't get my raise on my paycheck and they retroactively paid it back to me the next paycheck. When I started I just just so happy about the job I didn't complain much, I mean they fixed the issue and the union contract gives them some leeway in time to fix any payment issues.
Then I went from packaging the Fireplaces we made, to being a CNC operator making the sheet metal into the parts to build the Fireplaces. Well, when I got this position change I had a significant raise too. It took two paychecks to fix, again just some annoyance that I let slide.
Then in June I took a week off for vacation, I just got the paycheck for that pay period yesterday and was very unhappy to see my paycheck only having 40 hours on there, and the paystub saying I had my vacation money listed as available. I'm needing to move and getting half a paycheck on top of all the stress of not being able to afford a studio apartment even though I make $24/hr I blew up a bit. I went to my direct supervisor and took a deep breath telling him I understand you and anyone in this office had nothing to do with paychecks. Then went on about how it's bullshit and happens every single time and it needs to stop it's beyond fucked up. He cuts me off and tells me to check myself that he understands my anger and wants to help fix this, but I can't be speaking to him like this. I wasn't cussing him out. I was cussing about the situation as a whole. I went to our union rep and followed him to talk to the big boss on site and he told me “we (the company) hasn't done anything illegal, but he understands my frustrations and will get this fixed” I don't care about the legality, they'll fix the issue or the union will Fuck the company. What my problem is, is the constant repeating problem.
After making as big as a storm as I could at the moment I talk to a few other coworkers and found out, I'm not the only one who got fucked on their paychecks. Me and two others didn't get our vacation pay, another guy didn't get his personal time money for when he took his parents to the doctors. So after talking to more people at least 5 individuals out of 36 union employees got screwed over. Just goes to show, even if you have a well paying union job. Companies still are a piece of crap and will Fuck over employees without a single care.. sorry and thanks for reading my rant.
Tldr: Company screws up paychecks to union employees and there are little to no consequences to them.
