Worried some labour laws are being broken

This is in Alberta, Canada. I work for a unionized package delivery company. I haven’t gotten similar answers from my family and when I’ve searched it up, I haven’t been able to find clear answers either. There are two pressing issues that I’m not sure are legal according to Canadian labour laws. I was charged for my background check on my first pay check. 1. I was charged for my background check on my first pay check. I’m not entirely sure if this is illegal, regardless it’s a scummy thing to do imo.

  2. I work anywhere from 5-7 hours a day. If I work under 7 hours I get a 10 minute paid break and if I work 7 hours, I get 2 10 minute breaks, one of which is paid. This seems too low to me.

Any help on confirming if these are illegal or not, knowing the correct laws, and information on who I should contact to resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated. I’d also love to hear from others who’ve had similar experiences or similar questions.
