Worst “benefit” I’ve ever encountered

I was working at a medical device manufacturing plant just over the summer. I've left because it was terrible, but that's another story. Right now I'm still reeling from their supposed benefits. For one, I was working a 12 hour grave 4 days a week for $16 an hour, and that's with a shift differential, so my base pay was only $15. Terrible pay, especially when they would literally tell you that the part you just made 5,000 units for are worth about $100 each. Like, wth? But the real doozy is these main 3 benefits, and let me tell you, they are so proud of these “perks”. If you sign up in time to catch a spot, they have a large garden area at the main campus with individual boxes.

You can grow whatever you want and they have a gardener on staff to answer any questions and periodically teach a cooking class.

  • So they know they aren't paying you enough, but don't worry, they'll let you plant some food on their land as long as you do it in your spare time.

The gardener has her own greenhouse and supposedly grows a ton of food that is then made into healthy lunches that you can get 1 a day for free in the cafeteria. They do offer the normal rest, but there is a menu of healthy food for the whole month.

  • Once again, they KNOW you aren't being paid enough, so here ya go, free food. But the real kicker is… It's the most disgusting food you've ever had. You are desperate to get french fries from the other grill while you're looking at this beige mass of random (and I suspect old) ingredients. Ugh

And then my favorite. At Christmas time in my city, most places run a toy/food drive, or an angel tree (where you get gifts for specific kids in need). It's a great charity and there are usually fun things tied into donating. But this place runs a charity toy/food drive every Christmas for employees.

  • OMG. This place had the gall to say they run a toy/food drive for EMPLOYEES IN NEED. They literally know you aren't getting Christmas on this salary. You guys, this place was hell on earth, and that's not even including how they treated my fiance who was a contracted security guard there.

So yeah, what are some of the worst “benefits” you've ever been offered?
